Baby Sign Language

Our Baby Sign Language Class gives your little one a head start in expressing their needs, feelings and wants well before they can speak! It’s a fun and engaging way for them to better understand the world around them while also building a foundation for learning. In our classes, your baby will pick up signs like “more,” “cold,” and “milk” to let you know exactly what they need, along with signs like “dog,” “tall,” and “play” to share their thoughts and start having little conversations with you!

Why is this class beneficial?

  • Helps your baby communicate early
  • Deepens your bond with your baby
  • Reduces frustration and meltdowns
  • Supports language development
  • Strengthens cognitive skills

Little Hands, Big Conversations

Imagine the joy of watching your baby tell you they’re hungry, tired, or see a dog in a book, all without a single word spoken. With the help of Aurora’s newest Baby Sign Language class, these magical moments happen every day. Designed for parents and babies ages 6 months and up, our class uses a wide variety of signs to help your child communicate well before their speech develops. This isn’t just about learning hand gestures, it’s about paving a new road to communication.

Baby Sign Language also helps create calmer days. When your little one can clearly communicate what they need, you can respond before frustration builds, leading to fewer meltdowns and smoother transitions. But it’s a two-way street. Pairing a clear sign with your words helps babies understand what you’re saying, even if they don’t hear or process your words yet. Early expression supports self-regulation and lays a strong foundation for speech and connection.

Make daily life smoother and your bonder stronger, one sign at a time. Give your child the gift of early communication with Baby Sign Language.

What to Expect in Class

Our Baby Sign Language class is offered as an 8 week series, with each week building on the last, allowing skills and confidence to grow naturally. Signs are taught through:

  • Demonstrations so you see exactly how to sign each word.
  • Songs and rhymes that make the signs stick.
  • Free play that naturally encourages the use of each sign.

We also share tips for using signs at home during everyday moments like mealtime, playtime, and bedtime, so the learning continues beyond the classroom.

In our Baby Sign Language class, you’ll learn signs through songs and play, along with long-term learning strategies that will build their foundation for all future learning.

Our Baby Sign Language teacher brings a mix of professional training and personal parenting experience, creating a non-judgmental space where you can ask questions, share progress, and even laugh about the little “oops” moments along the way.

Our Baby Sign Language Story

We took a Baby Sign Language class when our son was 9 months old. He had zero signs and zero words. By week two he had his first sign; by week four he had five; by the end of eight weeks he knew 25+. We took the class again and he finished with nearly 100 signs.

Long before his first spoken word, we were having real back-and-forth “conversations”. He could express what he needed, sign back our words to make sure he understood us, and even made up his own signs when he didn’t know one. He’d “chat” about the world, signing dog or truck as he saw them pass by the window, and show conncections (we’d say snow and he’d sign cold).

When he began daycare, he wasn’t talking yet but could communicate clearly with his teachers. At 2.5, he still uses signs when the words won’t come or if we’re having a hard time understanding him. Signing gave him a voice, and laid a strong foundation for future learning.
