Sensory Movers

Sensory Movers is a regulation-focused, movement class led by a pediatric OT, specializing in sensory processing. Through play and exploration, we’ll show you how the senses work together and how they shape your child’s developing brain.

But it’s more than play; you’ll learn how to use movement to help with big feelings, busy bodies, and sensitivities. When class is over, you’ll leave with practical techniques to make everyday moments like meals, free play, and bedtime, feel smoother and calmer.

Why is this class beneficial?
  • Helps your child make sense of the world through playful, sensory-rich movement
  • Channels big energy into purposeful movement
  • Builds motor skills and a strong brain–body connection
  • Teaches simple regulation tools to use at home
  • Improves focus and attention

What is Sensory Processing?

Sensory processing is something we all experience every second of the day. It’s how our brain takes in, organizes, and responds to information from the world around us. Our senses constantly send signals to our brain, helping us understand and interact with our environment.

But for young children, this can feel very overwhelming. Their brains are learning how to process all that information and learning how to self-regulate. Self-regulation is how a child responds to sensory input to find a “just-right” state, where they feel safe and comfortable.

Understanding sensory processing can help parents support their child’s development and create environments that help them feel balanced, calm, and engaged.

What to Expect in Class

Each Sensory Movers session begins with a short welcome song to help both you and your little ones settle in and feel comfortable. We then move into some movement based activities, each focusing on sensory exploration. Your child will get to choose their pace and comfort level with each activity.

What you might see in our Sensory Movers class:
  • Gentle obstacle courses designed to build coordination and balance
  • Sensory bins for hands-on texture exploration
  • Crash pads to encourage safe jumping and landing
  • Calm down stations that offer quick resets when needed

We end every class with a wind-down goodbye circle, giving babies and toddlers time to transition from active play to a calmer state. We stick to this routine to set a safe, predictable rhythm, making it easier for little ones to shift from class time to whatever comes next.

Why We Created Sensory Movers

When our son started daycare at 18 months, we saw big sensory needs: mouthing everything, crashing and pushing, nonstop motion, and losing control when excited.

A pediatric OT was able to explain his “body senses” (movement/balance and body awareness) so we finally understood what he was seeking, and why. She helped us read his cues and gave us simple tools like “heavy work” to ground his body, squeezes to calm his nervous system, and swinging to find that just-right state.

Sensory Movers grew from that experience. It brings the same play-with-purpose activities, controlled ways to use big energy, predictable routines, and supportive, professional coaching so you can understand your little one better.
